Open Google Chrome and go to Youtube.com and from the chrome menu select the desktop site. Now play the video you want and press the home button, do not close the chrome just minimize it by pressing the home button. On the notification panel, you will get a player from where you can resume the video. If you play a playlist you would be able to skip and select previous and next songs/videos. On iPhone, you just have to follow the same tips but to minimize it tap and hold the chrome and swipe it up to minimize, and the video will play in the background.
